All things tend towards disorder. Energy disperses and systems dissolve into chaos. Entropy is a measurable physical property associated with these states of disorder, randomness and uncertainty. 

The second law of thermodynamics states that as you go forward in time, the net entropy of any closed system always increases. A gradual decline from order to chaos. The Greek root of entropy translates to a turn towards transformation - the transformation being chaos.
