Negar Boroomand, a 27-years-old Vancouver-based abstract painter originally from Iran. Negar started art/painting on her own as a therapeutic approach during challenging times of pandemics.
Although Negar has always had a strong desire to create art, the fear of not being good enough kept her away from it for many years. Negar went in the opposite direction & pursed mathematics as part of a plan to leave Iran to experience more freedom & to be more independent. Moving to Canada in 2018 for her MBA. After graduating & landing a stable job in Vancouver in 2020, she purchased her first canvas & easel, then started painting on the balcony.
"Sitting on my balcony after work and mixing up colors, it feels like time has stopped. A pure, simple joy that I had never experienced up to that point. I never thought I could spend hours doing something & love every moment.
It frees up space in my mind to think and imagine a colorful world beyond this current scary illusion. As an Iranian woman whose freedom has always been limited by society and government, I could now be the master of my world. There are no rules or boundaries. It is just me, but that is all I need."

Like many others, the past two years have been quite challenging. The loss of loved ones & being away from family, alongside many other reasons, made Negar go through a dark phase in life. As an introvert finding it hard to communicate emotions, & found magic in art. It helped her to express feeling & tell it to the world in an abstract form. Creating each piece made Negar face her emotions & fell in love with that process. It's a powerful mediation form, quieting the mind, observing, & having compassion for her art. "Each piece reflects my soul in a specific spacetime."
